Sunday Edition

This is our studio site. Among lots of other things, we run Field Notes Brand,
go there right now and spend lots of money. Thanks.

Martin Fuchs

Martin Fuchs lives and works in Vienna. The pictures at his site were taken on several trips through Europe and America from 2000 to 2004. This travel moved inward as well. Martin sees the photographer's art as an examination of the self as well as of the world. Our selection above is from his moving series, A Journey To The Inner Core which, in his own words, represents a "search for sense, for propitiation and forgiveness."

"When I start to work an a photographic project I always have to take some time wandering around observing the people and the situation around me. I want to become part of my environment. Only when I have the feeling that I have an overview of the whole situation do I start taking pictures. I use either a Leica M camera or a SLR system. I prefere the smaller Leica. It's a complete different way to work and see. Whenever possible I try to manage my shots with available light, not using a flash."

"I try to take pictures from unexpected angles and surprising perspectives and I am conscious of the fact that I can not be objective. It is important to show my very personal point of view, to capture and transport moods and emotions. For me, photography is a good way to grapple with myself and life, to learn and mature. What could be more interesting than life itself?"

During a string of Fridays we featured a single work from a photographer, with a link to his or her online portfolio and a few words.
